The original rocking sheep is as much a piece of furniture as it is a toy. Both the body and the head are made of pinewood and are hand-made by a carpenter. The body is then padded with foam and covered with carefully selected lambskin - just as Povl Kjer always did it himself. In 1981, Povl Kjer designed the first rocking sheep for his niece as a reminder of her childhood in the countryside. The rocking sheep has become known in Denmark with its characteristic design, followed by the whole of Scandinavia. Today, this Danish design classic is sold worldwide.
The wood used is pine, which is traditionally used for furniture in Scandinavia due to its good properties. The wood comes from Swedish or Finnish forests and is FSC certified.
The lambskin comes from Sweden and Iceland, where the sheep and their lambs live freely in the wild and untouched nature. All skins are bought as a byproduct of the meat industry in order to make good use of resources so that no part of the animal is wasted. The skins are tanned in the best and most controlled tannery in Europe.
In terms of sustainability, our production takes place locally in the countryside in the heart of Denmark. The rocking sheep is durable and can be used for several generations. Should a rocking sheep break, we will repair it free of charge, regardless of its age. We hope that our customers, both children and adults, will experience the joy of this fantastic product that has been made with pride and care since 1981.
Care
Lambskin is very robust and hard-wearing and does not normally require any special care. If the fur on the back becomes a little flat, it can be brushed up with a stiff brush. The fur can be washed in emergency coats, but the skin should not get too wet. Therefore, it is recommended to wash the fur by hand. Stains on the fur can be "washed away" with wool soap or mild soap and rubbed off with a towel. You do not need to worry about soap residue in the fur, as this only protects the hair.
The wood can be wiped with a damp cloth and refreshed with a little oil after a few years of use.
reupholstery
The rocking sheep ages gracefully, but when the fur is completely worn out, the sheep can be reupholstered. At the same time, the frame is checked and tightened if necessary so that your rocking sheep can bring joy again.
repairs
Irregularities in the wood and production are so rare that we have so far carried out all repairs without time limits and additional costs. Exceptions are excessive wear and tear and shipping costs, which in this case may incur additional costs. Repairs are only carried out on direct request.
